Our vetting process here at Not a Date... is robust.

As a new business, this was something we debated long and hard around the boardroom table. Making potential members jump through hoops before even joining might be deemed by some as foolish, BUT...

Nearly all the single people we talked to have terrible dating stories or experiences to tell, and the members who have joined us tell us that they are hugely reassured by our tight process.

With over 9,000 people reported as victims of dating or romantic fraud last year, being wary is only sensible.

Even if you decide not to join Nota Date, I still want to share my top tips to keep you safe.

Firstly, before getting too chatty, let alone meeting, you should begin by checking the person out thoroughly. There are warning signs to look for when searching either social media or dating profiles.

Always double check someone's social media as well as their dating profile, they can be VERY different. This is especially important if you intend on meeting in person or before giving them your contact details.

  1. Do they have a social media presence (this could include FB, Insta, or Linkedin - most people stick to one or two)? If they have no profile of any sort, in this day & age that should ring warning bells. It's unusual not to have any social proofing in the modern world.
  2. How long has the profile been inexistence? Short term or newly set up profiles are a red flag.
  3. How much info is on it? Work, education, relationship status, interests - look for full information not an empty or too vague profile.
  4. How many photos are there? Who's in the pictures? What have they been up to? When and where were they were taken and posted? Be wary of profiles that show no people (just places or pets) or just the person - no family, friends or group pictures is a red flag.
  5. How many friends/contacts they do have? Low numbers can be another warning sign. Are there any mutual contacts you could ask if this person is real?
  6. How often do they post? If they haven't posted recently and all the posts are historical, you guessed it - red flag.

Use the above as a checklist. If multiple issues are present - please be wary.

Be cautious, be vigilant and above all, be safe.
