“I’ve just given up on dating, all the apps are terrible - I have lost hope”
I remember hearing words to that effect many times during the research phase of Not a Date.
So, I did some investigating and even joined a couple of sites in the name of research (not to be named of course) and oh my goodness, they weren’t wrong!
I promise you – the below are real profile headlines taken from matches sent to me:
"Witty (according to some) an asset to ay pub quiz team, tryin to be the world's greatest film buff. I put the hours in!"
"I would like to say I'm tall, dark, handsome and rich, however, that mayube stretching the truth a litte"
"I'm fun to be around always laughing even at myself my friends say I'm like compo from the last of the summer wine but deffo not scruffy..."
Talk about selling yourself!
I also did some investigating from a male perspective and boy there were some real horror stories there! I picked up The Times last weekend only to see a story called “Inside the lives of 12 single men: how bad is it on the apps?” Twelve men aged between 27 and 70 had taken part in the story.
Here are a handful of the worst headlines:
Sound familiar??
So, I thought about what has kept me and my husband so in love for 30 years - and it all boils down to friendship. Above all else, we are friends.
These are the foundations you need for a good friendship. And that’s the ethos here at Not a Date: take the pressure away from dating and concentrating on building friendships first.
Great events and experiences with a chance for a good old-fashioned catch-up or get-to-know-you session, safe in the knowledge that when you turn up, so do 30 or so others.
No more apps, swiping, ghosting, catfishing or fakes.
